When you plan a weekend it usually doesn't go as planned.

So this past weekend was supposed to be a nice weekend. Nothing super special or filled with fun stuff, but just nice. We were headed out of town to La Crosse for WI state darts. Adam (husband) was shooting doubles with his bff - I think men have bffs - and the little man and I were going to hang out. I took off work early on Thursday and we were all packed up and on the road early, wooo hooo! Fast forward 3 hours and we are 45 minutes away from our destination and of course what happens? The mother f-in car breaks down. Like dead. done. not working. So there we sit on the side of a busy interstate. The car is rocking back and forth with the passing force of every large car and semi flying by at 75 mph. Dear husband had the idea to take baby out of the car seat to play in the grass on the side of the road to keep him entertained. Well super patient me says 'NO ARE YOU F'ING KIDDING ME DON'T YOU SEE THOSE SHOWS WERE PEOPLE GET HIT WHILE THEIR CAR IS BROKE DOWN ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD HE IS STAYING IN HIS CAR SEAT OMG IT'S HOT IN HERE DID YOU FRIGGIN CALL THE TOW PLACE I CAN'T BELIEVE THIS IS HAPPENING ADLKFJDAKJK##ADFA*8ASDFJL##'.
Okay I guess I'm not all that calm or patient. My wonderful husband is tho and switched spots with me since I was sitting in the back with a crying screaming toddler. I will also add that our little man Jaxen was running a fever and had since the day before. So he was hot and sick of his car seat and just not feeling well. But Daddy to the rescue!! He managed to calm Jaxen down and keep him pretty entertained, whew. So we got a tow to come, waited 45 minutes for that and then 45 minutes to our hotel.

So Jaxen and I were stranded without a car Friday while Adam shot darts. Therefore all our plans fell thru. No mall shopping, no lunch with a friend I haven't seen in like a year and a half, no leisurely stroll with my hubby along the Mississippi river, no cruising around the gorgeous town of La Crosse. Instead I took the stroller and walked my little man all around down town. He napped and I just walked. My Dad and 2 sisters ended up coming and picking our stuff up from the hotel and taking Jaxen back with them - they live about 50 minutes away. He still wasn't feeling well and spiking a fever all day. I joined Adam, we finally got the car around 3pm ($800 later I will add.... super). We hung out with some friends for a bit and head to my parents.

Saturday came and we just had a leisure day at my parents house and tried to keep our sick guy entertained before heading home Saturday night at Jaxen's bedtime so he could sleep in the car on the way home.

'Hey what else can I get into of Grandma's stuff'

He was just not happy all day but managed to still get into some trouble at Grandma and Grandpas and do some snuggling with Grandpa.

Finally Sunday we were home and took the little man to the doctors. Verdict - double ear infection plus he's teething. Poor guy :( So finally he has meds and is slowly starting to feel better although he is still incredibly whiny!

Short story long, I actually learned a lot about myself this weekend. I've grown up! In the past a situation like this would have put me in an angry, mad, cranky tailspin. I would have been ticked off Thursday and it would have carried thru my whole weekend, making everyone else just as cranky. Yes I was upset on Thursday and disappointed that our weekend didn't go as I envisioned. But I figured ahhh not much you can do about it. Pay the bill, get the car fixed and move on. I really wasn't all that worked up about it. I attribute part of this to being a Mom. You realize there are other things in life that matter so much more :) We were all safe and healthy (for the most part) and we had my awesome family not too far away to help. So in all I'm grateful for my super patient husband, our beautiful son, our good friends and great family. It didn't go as planned but then again what in life really does.
